“Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?” -Clarence, It’s a Wonderful Life

Last week, we wrote a definitive list of the top five Christmas movies of all time. Spoiler alert: Number #1 on that list is It’s a Wonderful Life. But that shouldn’t come as much of a shock, as the classic movie is shown on millions of screens every year leading up to Christmas. Why is that? Why does an old black-and-white movie, about a regular man named George Bailey, from the 1950’s get so much playing time during the present-day holiday season? Before we attempt to answer those questions, we first want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Unruh Furniture!

We have had a jam-packed few weeks of handcrafting and home-delivering furniture to families like you. Some of those pieces were in the form of a surprise gift; some were the result of a lifelong dream to possess the perfect dining room table. No matter the occasion, our unique furniture store operation is happy to provide. In addition to our hard work in the workshop, we have typed tirelessly on our blog to highlight various offerings at Unruh. We’ve discussed wooden desks for your home office, preparing your home for the holidays, core initiatives like our “Mom Fund” and Lifetime Warranty, wood coffee tables for board games with friends, living room sets made for lounging and high-quality bed frames to welcome you after a long day’s work. All of these posts are well and good, but today we celebrate the most important aspect of our business: you.

Strange, Isn’t It?

George Bailey’s guardian angel, Clarence, sure said it best: “Each man’s life touches so many other lives.” That’s the truth, and it goes beyond followers on social media accounts. Your life has more significant value than you realize on a day-to-day basis. You don’t realize it because you are a busy human – contributing faithfully to society. But to stop and reflect is core to the holiday season.

And if someone hasn’t told you lately, allow us: this world is a better place with you in it. Not just because you’re reading this blog post or supporting Unruh furniture. (Although you do have great taste). The world is literally better because of your love and daily commitment to friends and family around you.

Thousands of Moments

On delivery day, a few of our carpenters deliver handcrafted furniture to homes, and families, just like yours. Those moments are like Christmas morning for our team – whether it’s delivering in December or July. But for those “big reveal” moments where we set the furniture down exactly where you tell us, there were thousands of smaller moments leading up to that occasion. To design, measure, cut, trim, sand, smooth, finish, etc. all require thousands of precise decisions and movements from our team of expert carpenters.

Similarly, life doesn’t call for a bunch of “big reveal” moments. Do we get to be a part of those moments in the form of weddings, graduations and the birth of a new child? Absolutely. But it’s the thousands of little moments that build friendships, relationships, marriages, and legacy.

Make Time and Create

“From the warehouse experience all the way to delivery, communication was fantastic and we purchased a statement piece that will be with our family for years to come! Thank you to everyone at Unruh!” -Allison Buente

We consider every review like Allison’s a “big moment” at Unruh, but it’s only because we capitalize on the thousands of little iterations that got us there. We make time for the things that are vital and important – like creating high-quality furniture for our customers – and lift each other up in the process. And that’s all we can ask of you this holiday season.

Make time for what’s important and good, then utilize those moments to create memories. That formula will impact more individuals than you realize. Because Clarence is right. Without you, there really would be a big hole in our society. Although Unruh can fix holes with our Lifetime Warranty, only you can impact the world with kindness and intentionality. George Bailey, although he struggled at times, finally realized what’s important to life: community and loving his neighbor well. That is what ultimately leads to a wonderful life.
